Has anybody heard the phrase "the baptism is in the water" ?
  • Carolyn Scott Hunt on Esther 10 - 5 years ago
At no time in the book of Esther is God's name mentioned. And yet we know that because Esther requested three days of fasting from her people, when she learned of their possible fate, it had to be accompanied by prayer. God requires that the two are performed in unison. We know that as always, God is in control of every aspect of the situation. If someone has another explanation or theory regarding the outcome of this story, could you please share it, so I'll know that I'm interpreting it correctly. Thank you. Blessings!

verse 13 says that he won't allow us to be tempted by anything we can't defeat and that he will show us a way out, ok that is for believers only ? 2, When God forgives me, am i still forgiven if I can't forgive myself sounds wrong but i come across lots of people who can't forgive themselves sometimes for a sin that has broken up families or causing shame or something just as destructive, who need to know they are still forgiven by God if they repented. Am i right in this.

    Ingred,

Where is the tree of wisdom written about in The Scriptures?

God gave Adam ONE commandment. "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen 2:16-17

From this point in time until now, we are faced with this fundamental question, "Will I CHOOSE to believe God?"

Our natural inclination is to ACT as if we do NOT believe God. And this is exactly what happened. God wants people who will believe Him, no matter what! Adam failed the test and the rest of The Bible contains examples of a few people believing God and God's Mercy and Grace being extended to those who believe, because we ALL believe imperfectly.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."Joh 3:16-18

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." Rom 5:10

Simple things like not spelling Jesus with an I when you are not supposed to because you do away with the spiritual reference and or physical reference ultimately taking away the secret he wants to share with those who are seeking.and enough with correcting the so called mistakes most are" eye dialect" or "homophones" ex: vp ...eye dialect teaches you how to read and helps bring letters and their sound into use.....poyson &poison are homophones .do the etymology on poy and son .it's. not a liquid.this work of art is not archaic it just bothered knowah webster.ei:preface to his 1833 bible.

    Bonsu,

The MAIN things are the PLAIN things.

This is NOT one of the MAIN things, meaning that this is not a matter of salvation and good Christians dunk, triple dunk or sprinkle.

Many people believe that baptism is essential based on...

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Act 2:38

But look what happened when Peter preached to Gentiles...

"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days." Act 10:44-48

They received The Holy Spirit, that is they were regenerated, without baptism. Then they were baptized as a testimony of their conversion and in obedience to Christ.

But it never states a formula. The Ethiopian Eunuch went down into the water but was he splashed, single dunk, triple or what? Don't know. And we should not make a formula a means of dividing The Body of Christ unnecessarily.

I'm a baptist, with a small b. I have a conviction about baptism, being immersed as a sign of my death and burial of my old life with Christ being buried and coming out of the water as a sign of my new resurrection life in Christ. And I'll kindly discuss with those who differ. But we are not enemies. We just have a different persecutive on an issue that is not essential.

In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.

    Lew,

Who is The Creator, according to The Scriptures?

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made."Joh 1:1-3

"[He] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:" Col 1:15-16

So let's just imagine the Godhead among Themselves agreeing with Each Other, "Let US..." And then God The Son executed Their plan. Each member of The Trinity is fully God: God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit; Three distinct Persons in ONE Divine Essence or Being.

God The Son, Jesus, is the revelation to mankind of the invisible God.

"And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was."Joh 17:5

One God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity.

Since water baptism does not bring salvation but comes after salvation as an outward testimony of an inward change, we have to wonder if it truly matters if you are dunked once or three times.

I can tell you that when Jesus walked the earth, before the church began, the Jews used to dunk three times. They didn't know why they did it that way, they just did.

But it is interesting that Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 that when you baptize, baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Again, the Jews dunked three times, they just never put it together why three times.

There are three things we identify with during baptism, Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

Whether we are dunked once or three times has been debated for a long time. Again, however many times a person goes under will not affect their relationship as a born again believer in Christ.

Why, in 26, did God refer to the creation of man as follows: Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likenes...........& then in 27 says: "So God created man in HIS image, in the image of God.........

I am unclear as to whether it is an effort by a singular God or some type of reference to a group effort. Thak you you for providing clarity on this juxtaposition.

Is hard to understand who is evil but there are like measurement of greed ,lied ,envy, or I say the seven sin . The most important is the Ten Commandments that we supposed put in front of us and the church too .We always see a person suffering and we give money and everything is ok because you think your safe now . The most sin is not having knowledge if have knowledge money would be worthless and so is evil.

David ,you are definately not alone ,not for one second ,i also think that many people are afraid of the Truth and dont want to know about it because they think they will have to completely change their lives and give up everything that they enjoy and they dont want to do that , i enjoy watching films ,music ,reading novels even the odd glass of wine ,i know that all these things are just distractions and as long as i dont get too distracted by them its ok for me to enjoy them occasionally ,materialism is a big problem for a lot of people i think ,our whole society seems obsessed with buying bigger and better and more of mostly unsatisfying junk as far as i can tell ,i get genuinely sad when some one i know and like gets a bit obsessed with wanting the latest phone or a better car etc,if i honestly believed that that was all there was to life ,the getting of more stuff and nothing else ,i think i would put an end to it all .I have said to one or two people something like ,if you die tomorrow what use will all your stuff be to you ? Your family will either bin it or use it themselves ,whoever i say that to they look at me as if im the idiot . You are not alone David ,stay strong and be happy in the Truth ,no one can take it from you and no one can take you away from it.

    The unpardonable sin!

First of all, in 1 John Chapter 2 Verse 2, it says that Jesus Christ is the propitiation, or satisfaction for our sins, and He has died for the sins of the whole world. Everybody! He died for the sins of the whole world.

Every human being, when they stand before God on their appointed time, they will not have to answer for their sins. Jesus died to forgive the sins of the world.

However, what they will have to answer for is what did you do? How did you respond when the Holy Spirit came to you and testified to you about Jesus Christ? What did you do?

    Blaspheming means to express rejection.

In John Chapter 16 Verses 8 to 11, Jesus says that when the Holy Spirit comes, after He ascends up into heaven, the Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.

So when the Holy Spirit comes and convicts somebody of their sin, and of the righteousness that can only be found in Jesus Christ, and if they reject Him, they will be judged for their sins.

If they reject that conviction and that testimony, they have committed blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It is the only sin that a person cannot be forgiven for, the rejection of Christ!

Hi, Stewart, This is hard to show in a short post but here goes. Good Friday has been a tradition for many years. If we go back to the 1st Passover which this Passover should match the lamb was taken up on the 10th of Nisan and sacrificed on the 14th. We must keep in mind the Jewish day begins and ends at sundown. Jesus fulfilled the feast of Passover so, it was the same as the first. We see in John 12:1 Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. The next day Jesus rode into Jerusalem. That would be 5 days until Passover that would be as called today Palm Sunday, Sun.10th of Nisan, the next day Mon.11th, Tue.12th, Wed.13th, Thur.14th of Nisan the Passover day. The next day is Fri the 15th the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is a holy day.

Jesus said he would be in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights. Some say Fri, Sat, Sun. on the third day. Ok, first we know Jesus was crucified on Passover day but Passover day is also a preparation day for the Feast of Unleavened Bread because that is a holy day and no work could be done except to eat. John called it a high day. When the sun went down Wednesday13th it became Passover day the night of the Lord's Supper. In the garden, the betrayal, arrest, trial, and crucifixion all were done before the sun went down that started the 15th, the night they ate the Passover. Remember the days start and end at sundown.

Fri.day15th=1day Sat. night16th=1night Sat. day16th =1day Sun, night17th =1night all equal 2 days and 2 nights Jesus rose before the sun came up.

Thur. day=1day Fri. night=1night Fri.day=1day Sat night =1night=1night Sun night=1night Jesus rose befor the sun came up. All = 3 days and 3 nights.

I hope this was not too confusing but if you read in Exodus the first Passover will help. Many think they ate the Passover meal on the 14th but it was eaten the night of the 15th, that is part of the confusion. Ron

I believe the 2 witnesses are the 2 olive trees and the 2 candlesticks are this. Olive trees are the Jews and the gentiles, Jesus is the roots and the 2 trees are grafted together. The 2 candlesticks represent the Jews and the gentiles giving light to the world, teaching the word of God to the lost. The Jews are the ones who believe Jesus is the Messiah and the Gentiles believe Jesus is the Messiah. We are the 2 witnesses, the born again believers Jews and Gentiles.

    Louis,

Man's turning point from the beginning has been, "Do I believe God?"

God gave Adam ONE commandment. Eve was deceived but Adam chose to rebel, which is the evidence of unbelief.

The entire plot line of The Bible shows God pursuing man and man's responses.

Able responds by believing God while Cain does not. Genesis 4:3-5

Noah responds by believing God Genesis 6:22

    Abraham believes God Genesis 15:6

    ...

And it all culminated in Jesus and is encapsulated in...

"And they said, BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Act 16:31

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man BELIEVETH unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Rom 10:9-10

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have BELIEVED in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" 1Co 15:1-4

Upon true saving BELIEF in God man's position with God changes. Before BELIEF he is an enemy of God. After true saving BELIEF in God he is at peace with God.

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." Rom 5:10

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" Rom 5:1

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." Jud 1:24-25 (KJVA)

I really want to know about baptism. Some church believe in three immersion "in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit" repeating all the three Person of the Trinity each time you are immersed in the water three times.

Others baptized only in the name of Jesus Christ ignoring the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Others also in the Trinity in one immersion.

So I want which is right and if all are right I will want to know. Thank you.
