This verse is about escaping the wrath of God, but it reveals that those who are saved still need to obtain salvation, meaning the spirit was saved but the soul and body are not saved yet they are waiting and groaning to become saved. This salvation takes place at the second coming of Christ for some and the judgment seat of Christ for others but some will lose their salvation because they gained the world and lost their soul, or buried their talent, or were found without a wedding garment.

Best to start with the concept of Resurrection. Those who are asleep in Christ will be called up first. Then the living. But after the thousand years the wicked sleep and those who died at HIS appearing will be raised. Verse 19 is about our Lord Jesus but verse 18 is about us. Our Father is crying out to us to heed the words of his law and to follow the path of righteousness. To Jules, if Zion is dispersed among Babylon in which lies the brass and iron (clay mixture), then the focus of Zion is beyond the temp borders of Israel established today. Verse 20 is about our Lord Jesus. In verse 20, our Lord sees all the evil in the world but it doesn't enter into him or change him. Our Lord hears all the evil around him but it doesn't influence him. He is blind and deaf to all that is evil and is pure and righteous before God. He is the Father's perfect sacrifice for our sins and we should be forever grateful for this precious gift of salvation.

Shackpoke you are on point, baptism is the only way to be "In Christ." Our death, burial, and resurrection is displayed through baptism (new creation), which is our side of faith and hope of salvation, just as Abraham's side was to obey God and offer up Isaac. His obedience in that act was considered righteous with God. Baptism is the only way to "put on Christ" thus awakening us to God's will.

Winnie, I was raise in the catholic church. Over there people listen and behave like statues. When I became protestant, I felt in my heart like you do and I too thought that people would look and maybe laugh about me. When I told this to a lady, she told me "close your eyes and let the Lord be your only audience" I now follow my heart only and I am happy. We should only please the Lord.
