Mark Diffin, thankfully Matthews credibility is fully intact. It is commonly accepted that many of the OT prophecies have dual meanings (what some refer to as "telescoping prophecies"). Matthews comment in v 23 has been a little more troubling for some but not many. Matthew may have been referring in some way to the OT Nazarite vow. A Nazarene or one that has vowed a Nazarite vow. Emanuel; part of the problem may be with the format of trying to communicate in 400 or less characters. I can see obviously that you are reading your Bible, and you strongly believe the basic tenets of the Faith. But the point we are trying to make is that Jesus' work on the cross was to break the power of sin over us to make us fit for His Presence. And He has provided all for us to not sin!

The Apostle then goes on with words of comfort and encouragement "IF anyone sin.." but not to throw a blanket declaration over all of us that we're still in bondage. Who told you that you're sinning every day? Are you really? Jesus saves us FROM OUR SINS so that we can be reconciled to God and be His children in truth.

Emanuel; I did read through carefully all that you wrote; and I'm saying that you are very mistaken! Jesus being here on earth or in heaven has nothing to do with whether men let Satan enter their hearts to blaspheme the Spirit. And the Lord said precisely without any room for confusion or misunderstanding: The Blasphemy of the Spirit HAS NO FORGIVENESS; not in this world, nor the next one coming!

I had just written a question as to the background of Matthew and then proceeded to the Commentary which says that his last name is Levi, and that he converted. I am curious about this because the old testament writers all carried some kind of Godly credentials. What did Matthew convert from, and what did he convert to? The commentary says it is written primarily to the Jews. (See next comment)
