These words are also lacking in all of the ancient translations of the New Testament. The only exception to this is Latin. However, the oldest Latin manuscripts do not contain this passage. In the manuscripts which do have them we find that the wording is different.

Add to this, there is no evidence of this verse in the writings of early Christians who commented on this book of Scripture. Neither do we find it cited in any of the Trinitarian debates of the fourth century. If it existed at this time it is inconceivable as to why it was not cited in the debates. Indeed, it would seem to settle the issue.

Thus, this particular verse should not be used as support for the biblical doctrine of the Trinity. However, we must emphasize that the doctrine of the Trinity does not stand or fall on this verse alone. Indeed, there is sufficient evidence in Scripture for the Trinity doctrine without appealing to 1 John 5:7. Therefore, it is best to ignore this verse in discussions about this subject.

The word of God is inspired by God.

There's human error in translating from one language to another but those errors doesn't thwart God's plan or message to the world.

It is missing from the writings of Christians such as Irenaeus (died about A.D. 200), Clement (died about A.D. 210), Tertullian (who died around A.D. 220) and Athanasius (who died in A.D. 373). If this verse were found in the text of First John it would have been the primary verse used in these debates but it was never cited!

OBSERVATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS.

After looking at the facts surrounding the inclusion of these disputed words in First John we can make the following observations:

1. THIS VERSE DOES NOT BELONG IN SCRIPTURE.

Although this verse clearly does teach the doctrine of the Trinity, as we have seen, there is serious question as to whether it belongs in Holy Scripture. Indeed, the evidence for its inclusion in the New Testament is almost nil. In fact, almost every modern translation of Scripture, with good reason, rejects its authority. We should make the same conclusion.

2. REJECTION OF THIS PASSAGE IS NOT A REJECTION OF THE TRINITY

Contrary to what some have written and said, the rejection of this verse has nothing to do with any conspiracy to keep the Deity of Christ, or the Trinity, out of the Bible. The reason for its rejection is the lack of evidence for its inclusion; it is not some sinister plot to remove parts of God's Word. Indeed, an objective look at the evidence would lead one to conclude that these words were not part of the original text of First John.

3. IT SHOULD NOT BE USED TO ARGUE FOR THE TRINITY

Consequently, this verse should not be used in discussion about the Trinity. As we have repeatedly emphasized, there is sufficient evidence in the Scripture to support the doctrine of the Trinity without appealing to these words in 1 John 5:7. The Trinity doctrine does not depend upon this verse. It never has. This must be understood.

Part 3.

Since these disputed words appeared in the later editions of Erasmus' Greek New Testament, as well as other printed Greek texts immediately after his time, including Beza's, they were used as the basis for the English translation in First John. Thus, we find these words in 1 John 5:7 which describe the various members of the Trinity as well as testifying that they are "one." In brief, this explains how the words became part of the English Bible.

However, this is not the end of the story. When an authorized revision was made of the King James Version in 1880 these words in First John were omitted. Almost all English translations since that time do not have these words as part of the text. The reasons can be stated as follows:

Why This Passage Is Rejected?

There are a number of reasons as to why this passage is rejected as being part of Holy Scripture. We can simply state them as follows:

1. THE PASSAGE IS FOUND IN ONLY A FEW LATE GREEK MANUSCRIPTS

Since the New Testament was originally written in Greek, the Greek manuscripts are our primary means of reconstructing the original text. The main reason for doubting these words were originally composed by John is the fact that they are only found in a few Greek manuscripts. Furthermore, as we examine these few manuscripts which do contain this passage we find that there are serious questions as to its authenticity.

Indeed, of the over three hundred Greek manuscripts which contain First John we find that only nine of them have this verse listed. Yet, of the nine, four of them have the verse in the margin while only five have it in the actual text.

There is more. These five manuscripts which do have this verse in the text are very late. None of the early manuscripts of First John contain it. Indeed, the first Greek manuscript that contains this verse in the actual text of First John comes from the fourteen century.

Part 2.

Earlier printed versions of the New Testament were in Latin. Thus, the copying to the text of the New Testament covered some fifteen centuries.

How the Verses Became Part of the Printed Greek Text and King James Bible.

At the beginning of the sixteenth century, a man named Erasmus was the first to publish a printed Greek text of the New Testament. In putting together the text for this edition, Erasmus consulted all of the Greek manuscripts which he could find. In the Greek manuscripts of First John which Erasmus examined, these words about the Trinity were not found. Consequently, his first printed edition of his Greek New Testament, issued in 1516, did not contain these words. This omission caused a real problem among the people of that day since these words were found in the Latin text with which they were familiar. Erasmus defended himself by saying that these words were absent from the Greek texts which he had consulted and thus should not be placed into the text of the New Testament.

When Erasmus issued a second printed edition of his Greek New Testament it too was without these words in First John 5:7. However, before his third edition of the Greek New Testament was issued in 1521 a Greek manuscript was found which did contain this disputed passage. The problem was that this particular manuscript was actually composed around 1520! Yet, to quell the uproar caused by the omission of these words, Erasmus placed them in the third edition of his Greek New Testament. This reading remained in all future editions of Erasmus' printed text.

This printed Greek text of Erasmus was basically the same text used by the translators of the King James Bible in 1611. It appears that the Greek text which the translators of the King James Version most relied upon was the 5th edition of the printed text of Theodore Beza. This was issued in 1598. This text is similar, but not exactly the same as that of Erasmus.

Part 1

There is a passage in the New Testament that seems to be an extraordinarily clear statement about the doctrine of the Trinity, 1 John 5:7. To many, the question as to the existence of the Trinity is settled by this verse.

What Does 1 John 5:7 Say?

First John 5:7 reads as follows in the King James Version:

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

The way this verse reads in the King James Version is a clear description of the Trinity. Indeed, it says that there are three that bear witness or bear record in heaven. These three are the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. In addition, it says that these three are one. Why then, is there any controversy about this issue of the doctrine of the Trinity? These words could not be clearer!

The Problem Stated

Unfortunately, it is not that simple. Indeed, there has been a question about the authenticity of this passage. We will give a brief history of the problem as well as make some observations.

The New Testament Documents Were Originally Written in Greek

To begin with, we must note that the books of the New Testament were originally written in Greek. When they were first composed each of them were written upon perishable material. Immediately, copies were made of these original writings (called the autographs). These hand-written copies of the Greek autographs, called manuscripts, were then copied and recopied.

By the middle of the second century A.D., the books of the New Testament began to be translated and then copied into languages other than Greek. This hand-copying of the text in Greek, as well as in these other languages, continued until the invention of the printing press (about 1450). Furthermore, even some time after the printing press was invented the text was still copied by hand. In fact, it was not until the sixteenth century (1516) that a Greek New Testament was printed and published.

Thanks again, I hope you don't mind, I understand you are done with this, and this is not to drag this on, a tit-for-tat and there is no need to reply. I usually keep posts short, but I feel I left things out and this will be it for this topic. Thanks again for the light on John 3:13.

The Priests and Pharisees kept on pushing Jesus for signs and proof and they were dead set on killing Him from early in Jesus' ministry. Jesus told them in John 8:28-29 that they would know He was the Messiah the Son of God and those things that happened when He died were proof for them. In John 5:25 "the hour is coming and now is,"

My understanding of the saints that came out of their graves was the same as Jairus's daughter, the widow of Nain's son. and Lazarus, when Jesus cried out caused all those things to happen and the saints came out of their graves and went into the city. Not in their glorified bodies but like Lazarus and the others.

In Matt. 27:54 They saw all these things happen they feared greatly saying "Truly this was the Son of God." The priests and Pharisees knew then they just killed the Messiah the Son of God. That is why they went to Pilate to guard the tomb, Matt. 27:62-66, as we see the disciples in shock still not knowing Jesus was going to be resurrected. The priests even with big money paid off the soldiers to tell a lie, Matt. 28:11-15.

Jesus is the Firstfruits and my understanding is He is the only one who has been resurrected with a glorified body until He returns.

Assurance of salvation: Corulers with Christ or coconspirators with the Devil.

It is helpful to go back to the Creation story to see God's original plan and design for man; and the results of the fall. In this segment I will look at the enemy of our souls ( 1 Peter 5:8). Lucifer's fall is covered in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28. When we see that narrative play out we see where sin actually originated and the cause was mainly pride. That blossomed of course to violence and other things ( Ezekiel 28:16) which I would briefly propose was an angelic society which may have started in heaven and perhaps led to a judgment between Genesis 1:1 and 1;2 sometimes called the "gap theory". For our purposes we will summarize that there had to be some time for the angels to be drawn to follow Lucifer; as well as to some time after all the angels sang to God's glory at creation before he fell ( Job 38:7-9).

Lucifer was much like man; in the sense that he was created to worship and adore the Lord; made flawless and beautiful and in innocence there was nothing wrong about that. He was a Cherub ( Ezekiel 28:14); therefore at an elevated status much like Adam and Eve were given authority to rule and reign over the rest of Creation in a unique role and status.

The serpent was used by the enemy to deceive through appealing to man's hidden knowledge that could somehow elevate his status and bring them something more than God intended as the real thrust of the temptation. A lack of TRUST in God is where the real issue is; and that of the heart of man which Jeremiah 17:9 makes it clear is desperately wicked. Therefore; what God made had the potential to become corrupted and wicked; in the same token one who is saved is made to glorify God and destined to become as Paul stated a "celestial body" ( 1 Corinthians 15:40). There is a resurrection for all men; but one to eternal soul damnation for the wicked ( John 5:29). The wicked cannot enter the Kingdom of God ( Rev. 21:27).

Salvation by man, or salvation by God?

(Part 5):

Many scriptures were written to show believers that some among them, who professed to be Christians, were actually not saved. John wrote 1 John so those who were saved would know that they have eternal life (1 John 5:13). In this letter, he listed many evidences, so that salvation could be proven among genuine believers.

In 1 John 2:18-19, he writes, "Little children, it is the last hour; and according as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come; from this we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they were of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out, in order that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us."

John is stating that those who are of the antichrist came out from the Christian fellowship. He teaches that the reason they chased after false doctrine and a false spirit, not staying with the fellowship of believers, is because they were never truly believers. They were never saved!

Sadly, the same is true today. There are many in our churches professing to be Christians, but who have no desire to hear or obey the truth of God's Word. Indeed, many so-called church leaders are not even teaching the Word of God from their pulpits, because they don't want to lose the numbers of people attending their services.

But the truth from God's Word still differentiates those who are truly saved from those who are just talking and acting like Christians, being devoid of the indwelling Spirit of Christ.

Salvation by man, or salvation by God?

(Part 4):

We also know from Scripture that no one can keep himself saved. John teaches, in 1 John 5:18 (as recorded in the oldest Greek manuscripts), "We know that everyone who has been born from God does not practice sin; but the one who has been born from God, God is keeping him and the evil one does not touch him."

John also states in John 10:27-29, "My sheep hear my voice and I know them; and they follow me. And I give to them eternal life; and they will never perish forever and not anyone will seize them from out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me is greater than all, and no one is able to seize them from out of the hand of my Father."

Jude states in his doxology in verse 24, "But to the one being able to keep you without stumbling and to set you before His glory blameless in exultation."

Paul in his writings emphasized the keeping power of God's Spirit in Ephesians 1:13-14: "In whom also after having heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also, after having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance, for redemption of the possession, for the praise of His glory."

He states again in Ephesians 4:30, "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." Probably one of the most powerful Scriptures of God's keeping power is Romans 8:38-39: "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor powers, nor any thing which has come, nor things coming, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The only way a person can be saved is by a spiritual birth from God; and the only way a person can keep his salvation is through the keeping power of God.

Other verses referencing the "love of God". Eph. 3:19 "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God". John 14:21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him". John 15:10 "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love". 1 John 5:3 "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous".

Living in the Spirit part 2

Our childlike faith should never be calloused by the weight of the world. That being said; there is no escaping the fact that we are in mortal bodies which are perishing daily such as 2 Corinthians 4:16 indicates. We have treasure in earthen vessels; though ( 2 Cor. 4:7). There is a healthy abandon which should accompany a mature faith; these aren't needing to be mutually exclusive states of mind and practice. We see those in the parable of the seeds and the sower who have immediate joy but no root in themselves ( Luke 8:13). We also have warnings to the Ephesian church in Revelation about leaving their first love ( Rev. 2:4).

The difference in these two verses is those who have an emotional reaction to the Gospel not rooted in faith; and in the second case those who had a true love in Christ and followed all the right doctrines but didn't continue to have love of Christ as their prime motivation. If we love Him we obey Him (1 John 5:2; John 14:21). Love of proper doctrine; law and other protocols should be the offshoot of that love but it must keep a root in a living; active faith else it slips into a religious set of moral dogmas that seeks to either squelch the flesh or brings an attitude of pride and self righteousness to the ecclesiastical leadership that leads to a dead religious set of rituals. Eventually; of course that leads to the tendancy of additional rituals in a Pharisaical manner if we are not careful.

Avoiding dead fellowship is no excuse for a permanant retreat from fellowship; however. Especially as we see the day of His return drawing near we are told NOT to forsake the assembly of one another ( Heb. 10:25). Our identities should be seen as adopted sons and daughters and being part of that heavenly assembly ( Heb. 12:1). There is a knowledge that the earth and heaven must be remade; all creation is groaning and will be until that Day comes ( Romans 8:22). Satan's accusations show us earth is not our home.

I don't see how anyone can say that for sure. The answer would be maybe. There seems to be some sort of confusion as to the concept of the "unforgiveable sin". That; according to the Gospels is spelled out fairly clearly-that of ascribing God's Spirit to Satan (or Beelzebub otherwise known as the king of the demons) which is basically the same despite some blowback I have had on the subject. That is why Christ says that any offense against Him is forgivable but not to the Holy Spirit. This shows how the Spirit is God's testimony to the world which is to remind us of "sin; righteousness and judgment to come" ( John 16:8).

There is another common misconception around the "sin leading to death." (1 John 5:16-17). There are certain sins which Paul mentions in the Corinthian church such as when the man was given over to Satan so that the flesh may be saved. ( 1 Cor. 5:5). Indeed; Paul makes it clear that if Communion isn't taken properly many have gotten sick and "fallen asleep" (died) as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 11:30.

There is always the chance that in a last minute repentance (such as the thief on the cross) or perhaps right before death repentance can occur. This would certainly be the exception rather than the rule as sadly "few" will be saved ( Matthew 7:14 etc). There is a difference of someone who is in a lifestyle of sin compared to say someone that slips up once or twice (as seems to be the case with many Fentinol overdoses these days). We would also have to assess if the man in question ever confessed Christ previously; and if any fruit evident of true repentance was in his life ( Matt. 3:8-10). There is a whole host of other things Satan uses such as music and the occult; the desire to be popular; etc. which drugs can be used as a gateway. That is different; although tied in with the physiological dependencies someone is trapped in; or emotional state of suicidal behavior that triggers such a sad ending.

The resurrection the last day? ( John 6:39-40,44) And this is the Fathers will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should (raise it up again at the last day). v.40 Tells us that everyone that sees Jesus and believes on Him, He will (raise him up at the last day) When is the last day? ( John 11:24-26) Martha saith unto him, I know that (he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day). (25) Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.: (26) And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? ((So the resurrection IS the last day)). The word (resurrection) is #386; it means a standing up again, a resurrection from death, raised to life again, rise from the dead. ( John 5:28-29) Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall ((hear his voice)), (29) And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (All that are in the graves shall ((hear His voice)) and come forth, this happens at the resurrection the last day) ( 1 Cor 15:42-44) So also is the resurrection of the dead, It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: (43) Tells us it is raised in ((glory)) and also raised in ((power)) Jesus comes back in the clouds in ( Mt 24:29-31) with power and great glory to gather together His ELECT, that would be the last day. ( Col 3:4) When He appears we appear with Him in ((glory)) Then we look at ( 1Cor 15:51-55) We are all changed at the last trump, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible. The word (last) is #2078; it means farthest, final, (of place or time) ends of, latter end. (That does not sound like its (before) the tribulation does it?) ( 1Thessalonians 4:15-17) The Lord descends with a shout, and the dead in Christ rise first, this is the last day, the resurrection.

Thanks for your reply. You have a better knowledge of Greek than I do, what I see is today, the Greek word , smeron, meaning today, this day, this very day. I think the word today is correct it is how we read the sentence and how it fits with what the thief said and when will he be in paradise, and if paradise is part of Hades or the new earth when it is all fulfilled.

Heb. 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: What do we understand the meaning to die/death? Platonism says it is a separation of the soul from the body and the souls go to Hades. If the soul is immortal what is appointed to die?

Luke 16:19-31. Was this a real story or is this a parable He told to people mainly the Pharisees? If we take it as reality, they were judged at death because Lazarus went to Abraham's bosom, and the rich man went to a fiery place of torture. Does scripture support that? Dan. 12:2 Matt. 25:31-34 John 5:28-29 Rev. 20:11-15.

The rich man was aware of where he was and talking and seems they have a body, asking for Lazarus to wet his finger and cool his tongue. Does scripture say we are awake in death? Job 14:10-12 Ecc. 9:5-6. The context of this chapter is the love of money, and stewardship, Jesus was addressing this to the Pharisees, "No servant can serve two masters".

Eph. 4 I know some understand this to mean that when Jesus ascended into heaven, he led a host of captives who ascended into heaven with him. But in Acts 2:29-34 David is still in his grave and has not ascended, would David be left? John 3:13. Does this show Jesus ascended alone?

I will leave it there, I guess it comes down to if we believe our soul is immortal which influences how we understand the scripture. Just some other thoughts, like you said there are probably more understandings. Thanks again.

I have just learned that there are scriptures missing from my bible, (KJV). I did not know this was a thing. Where can I find Jeremiah 1:30 / 1:36, in regular print? Have these scriptures been completely excluded from all versions of the KJV? Suddenly, I feel weird about this, and I wanted to submit my question.

We believe in Jesus Christ that He was born of the Virgin Mary, died and was buried, rose again on the 3rd day, as He said He would do. We thank God that when He calls us, we listen and the growth that is, comes from the Lord. According to His will. We pray in Jesus Christ's holy name for He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. When we come to Him in Spirit and Truth, He will hear our prayers, so He will transform us into and become like Him. Amen Hallelujah, may we walk to His glory, may we always have Jesus Christ with us every day. Always stand up for Him who did everything for us, so that we are cleansed in Jesus' holy blood on Calvary. For no other sacrifice could take away man's sin, Amen Therefore we have nothing to boast about, only rejoice in God. He will guide you, dear friend, all the way. That we have been given life is His, as is everything else in our lives. Amen Ask Him for changes and you will get it. Ask Han for advice and you will get it. Know that He goes with you, because He cares for us all, He has shown us that.

Seal up, affix a seal, a seal in biblical times as today, is used to guarantee security or indicate ownership. Vision, God's communication with man, prophecy (w-n-), the same word for prophet, a divine vision, a vision spoken of a divine vision or dream, Isaiah 29:7 God spoke in times past through the prophets, but these last days spoke to us by his Son, Heb. 1:1-2.

The Mosaic Law and covenant pointed to Jesus. He sealed them up, that is, he fulfilled them. The greatest prediction, which runs like a golden thread through the whole contents of the Old Testament, is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah, Jesus; and the greatest use of prophecy was to perpetuate faith in his coming and to prepare the world for that event.

I was sad to read your last statement: "Yes I hope and pray in the name of Jahshua that I survive the last hour of temptation in my life to be saved." Your faith in Christ Jesus is a living & active faith (or, should be) - the Spirit in you will continue to abide in you, dealing with all sin, & securing you till the day of completed redemption. Even John assures his readers in 1 John 5:13: "that ye may KNOW that ye HAVE eternal life". This is a present knowledge & not a fearful hope of the future. The Spirit will guarantee that you will endure to the end. I earnestly hope you can reconcile these things in your heart & life.

Ok. No Jesus not jahshua. Or Jah or whatever hebrew or Greek equivalent to Jesus and, God you choose to refer to. In the English language God is God. Jesus is the messiah, and so on and so forth. God knows who you are talking to just be respectful when referring to Him. Don't get caught up on obscure verses trying to make a doctrine of the name of God.

Secondly Jesus never made any new commandment . When Jesus said "if you love me keep my commandments" he was quoting Exodus 20:6



"And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments

This is referring to the ten commandments. All of them

Secondly the first four commandments are how you love God.

Just like the last six deal with how you love your NIEGHBOR.

He did not refer to every commandment he just referred to the ten commandments.

He was never saying just love your NIEGHBOR and not God.

Jesus is the one who wrote the ten commandments. It is a transcript of his character. Which is love. If you do not keep all ten of the commandments you do not love because they are a description of how you love.

1 John 5:3



"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."

The sabbath is Saturday. It was made holy by Jesus when he created everything. And it is still holy. No where in the entire Bible did he change or do away with the sabbath. Period!!!

Exodus 20:11



"For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

It's also found in genesis at the beginning before there was a jew.

It would be absurd to assume you may break the first four commandments but have to keep the last six. It's a package deal.

James 2:10



"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."

So it is the keeping of the entire ten commandments that is love for God and your nieghbor.

No, I don't believe we're supposed to wear crosses. Leviticus 26:1, nowhere does it say wear a cross, as jewelry. However it does say not to make idols.

Recently I thought, if a person had a friend that was killed by gunshot & had a miraculous recovery. How would he feel, if when he returned to his friends & family, they had an image of the gun or bullet around their neck, to honor him. I would think it would be upsetting to say the least. Wouldn't he say, "your missing the main point." isn't it the life lived?Jesus himself being the example of a loving life, helping others in need? & the hope & promise of resurrection. Bare your cross: Luke 14, looking at context, whole chapter Jesus in doing the better thing by healing, suffered rejection, hate, wrongful judgement.

A cross is painful, it's obvious, on view for everyone to see, not something we can hide in our pocket. It causes ridicule & even division. Joshua288, you are giving two different Scriptures here & they're different.

2 Corinthians 3:6: "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." If you have read further in this chapter, Paul writes about, "ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious...". This is what he is referring to: the letter of the Law was never designed to give Israel life (freedom of guilt, of penalty, of death & separation from God). The Law was given by God for many reasons, but ultimately we read what Paul wrote in Galatians 3:10-24, mainly that the Law never justified anyone, it couldn't because none could keep it perfectly. But the Law was given to show men their sinfulness & to draw him back to God, Who would one day save men (not by the keeping of the Law), but by having faith in Jesus His Son. So the letter of the Law will kill us sending us to hell, if we're dependent on it to save us. But the Spirit, the Holy Spirit gives the believer life now & into eternity, by virtue of Jesus' Death & Resurrection, & our believing this great act of Love. The letter of the Law could never do this. The Law was temporary, until Jesus came.

Then you quoted John 5:39, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." In this chapter, Jesus is speaking to the Jewish leaders who were wanting to kill Him ( John 5:18). Then Jesus speaks to them concerning what He was doing there & then about His Coming as the Son of God (vv18-24). He tells these leaders that 'they don't have God's Word in them because they refuse to believe in Jesus' (v38). And then He tells them, "Search the Scriptures", or 'you are diligently searching through the Scriptures, believing that eternal life is found in it' (this is from the original Greek). 'But these very Scriptures you read, bear witness of Me.' They failed to see Jesus' Coming in them.

You are right Jimbob but Jesus tells us search the scriptures in them you think you have eternal life but it is them that testify of me which is the Living word the H.G a living being that has to be born in us via his seeds that y he has to know us....Remember the letter, the written word is a killer.... 2 Cor. 3:6....God has made us able ministers of the new covenant not of the letter but of the Spirit....The letter is a killer....But the Spirit giveth life....But be carefull there are folks in this room that will tells you its the letter that gives life and the spirit is a killer....Stay away from the Spiritual revelation of the bible they say....gbu Jimbob....Remember Moses face shone with Glory when gave them the law (written words) ...But that Glory had to be done away with....As Jesus said my words are spirit and life....No eternal life in written words.... John 5:39...Search the scriptures in them you think you have eternal life....If we cd have had eternal life in the written word than Jesus shed his blood in vain...
