Donna, "The Hebrews Paul was talking to had become stagnant in their faith and walk with God. He was showing them the truth of deep commitment by those in past." Yes, great insight! But, he was also teaching Christians of Hebrew/Jewish roots and raising. And as a revelation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for the Jews, Hebrews has no equal. Note Acts, and sermons for Jews, vs sermons for Gentiles.

Will; Hebrews 11:3, "THROUGH faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Does it mean we will have access to the Universe that God created?

Yes,we already are heir to that thru faith in Jesus. But it goes further than that; with it, we please God. "But without faith it is impossible to please God" vs6

  • Eutychus on Hebrews 9 - 8 years ago
"For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things..." Hebrews 10:1...looking ahead we see that the law was at best, a shadow, a figure, a type, with things on earth pre-shadowing both our lives as saints, and our lives in eternity. Chapter 9 is revealing how the types and shadows interact with the tabernacle and temple in light of our NT lives and living.
  • Eutychus on Hebrews 9 - 8 years ago
"It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these." The OT reveals in figures and patterns, the reality we live today in Christ Jesus. You must read Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy to find figures and patterns of those things we experience today, and will experience in heaven.

"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:" This new covenant is Jesus, the Word of God, dwelling within us in the person of the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth and verity. A promise fulfilled...
  • Eutychus on Hebrews 8 - 8 years ago
"Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man." We have the ultimate high priest...but of the church, the true tabernacle, built as Jesus said he would. That tabernacle is the temple on earth.
  • Eutychus - 8 years ago

"For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did." The law was a stopgap measure ( Gal 3:19), until the Seed of Abraham came, which is Christ. At that point, the law ceased to speak, and we walked into the reality of being justified by faith, not by law...

    Bet
How can Paul equate Melchisedec to Jesus, who is God on earth among us???? Paul isn't equating Melchisedec to Jesus...he is drawing a comparison between their ministries, and their priesthoods. And Jesus' ministry and priesthood is superior. "By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament" vs 22. Melchizedec's ministry was temporal...Jesus' ministry is eternal, everlasting.
  • Eutychus on Hebrews 7 - 8 years ago
"Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually." No beginning, no end of life...here is the mystery...regarding which I will not attempt an answer. WHERE IS MELCHIZADEK? If he has no end of days, he must be alive...where is he? On earth? In heaven? Where then is Melchizadek?
  • Eutychus on Hebrews 6 - 8 years ago
"That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation." vs 18. WHAT ARE THE TWO IMMUTABLE THINGS, Paul is speaking of here? Don't know? Read carefully, to verse 12, of chapter 7. That verse names the two immutable things...The priesthood, and the law, which have been fulfilled in Jesus. Both have been remade, made better, fulfilled, in Jesus.
  • Eutychus on Hebrews 6 - 8 years ago
Please read again, the first 6 verses. Slowly, carefully, prayerfully. You are capable, with the help of the Holy Spirit, of fully understanding what is being said here. Read it, and tell me what it is saying...put aside what you've been told, and let a better teacher, the Holy Spirit, guide you into the truth. It isn't mysterious, nothing hidden. Just the words, saying what they mean, exactly.

    "Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;" The "HE" here is Jesus, Son of God.
  • Eutychus on Hebrews 5 - 8 years ago
"For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God;" The 'oracles of God' is another way of saying, the Word of God. We can spend a lifetime in church, and still be terribly ignorant of God's Word. And God's word, unknown, can do little to teach us truth. We must make it a part of ourselves, by study and prayer
