Jesus is the WORD. He will shine His light on His Word IF we will pray before opening our Bibles. "And in everything give thanks". EVERYTHING includes the privilege of having a Bible to read. Many in 3rd world countries don't, and they'd love to have one. It is so EASY to take our U.S. lives for granted; we've always had it all. Many of us weren't taught that our lives are a blessing.
  • Irene123 on Luke 12 - 9 years ago
    V. 1 - " ..... there were an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another ..... " ; can you imagine?! Hungry, honest souls as well as the Pharisees and Sadducees. The Lord God just shone His light on Jesus for all to see. Even the false prophets that came before Jesus didn't have such a following. People KNEW Jesus was - different.

123, so Father and Holy Ghost aren't important to you?
  • Irene123 on Luke 9 - 9 years ago
Lk. 9:58 - To use just this verse to someone in witnessing and not follow it up with - Lk. 12:31; Matt. 6:33 - is not good. To one who doesn't know the Word of God, but is hungry, we are leaving them - 'as is'. They haven't been 'fed'. We need to lift up the seekers.
  • Irene123 on 1 Thessalonians 5 - 9 years ago
Vs. 6-7; "Sober" - as well as being alert, watchful, the word also takes in drunkenness, v. 7. And worldly 'jesting'; there are times for Christian jesting, only 'times' - when the occasion calls for it, which, in His wisdom, will be very few.
  • Irene123 on 2 Corinthians 13 - 9 years ago
    V. 7 - " ..... though we be as reprobates." This confused me at first, until I 'reasoned' it out. We who believe the truth of Jesus are 'reprobates' to the Jews (Pharisees, Sadducees, etc.), not reprobates to the truth. To the unbelieving Jews we have left the God of the O.T., but we haven't - Jehovah is Jesus of the N.T. The name Jehovah translates to Jesus, Acts 2:37-38, 4:12.
  • Irene123 on Proverbs 8 - 9 years ago
To S. Morrow - I'm just curious; how do you know you are "called by His name?" I know this is a 'quote' you used, but I am assuming you are stating the fact in your own life that you are called by His name, personally. What did you do to let you know this?
  • Irene123 - 9 years ago
To Gary on salvation - Read Matt. 28:19, then Acts 2:37-38, then Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:9-10. In Matt. notice the word 'name'. Jesus Himself said this. Peter followed Jesus instructions in Acts 2:38, "baptized in the NAME." V. 37 they asked the brethren, "what shall we do?" Acts 4:12 says, "NONE other name." You're going to get LOTS of advice against these scriptures. Pray to Jesus of this.
  • Irene123 on Nehemiah 8 - 9 years ago
    V. 5 - " ..... and all the people stood up." And Jesus stood to read from Esais (Isaiah) in Lk. 4. To stand at the reading of God's Word, to give Him respect, honor and glory; the least we can do (and so much more!!!) for what He did for us. He loves to be honored and glorified by His people, because it's what He has taught them - because He loves them; just like any father.

(22-26) This is not our rest! As Jesus walked in this world, so are we to follow in His steps; and not expect to be any better treated than our Master. As much as the Spirit of Jesus is in us, and we walk in truth, so much also will the same kind of wicked men reject and persecute us.
  • A disciple on Exodus 6 - 9 years ago
v 9 "And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage." God proceeded anyway with His servant Moses, and the rest saw afterwards what power is in the words of God, over the worst evils in men. Here too is another example of the Lord's great kindness and forgiveness and mercy toward those who are suffering under bondage.

    V. 16 - And WITHOUT controversy .................. GOD was .....................; hmmm; I thought JESUS was ... ? I see here that God is telling me - His name is Jesus; and whatsoever ye do in word or deed (water baptism is done in both) do ALL in the NAME of - Jesus.

  • A disciple on Luke 8 - 9 years ago
This chapter seems to have a special devotion to how the Lord cares for women and girls. It opens with mentioning how "many" "ministered unto Him of their substance;" and then finishes with showing how that Jesus knows who is touching Him in Faith; and about WHO is all the joy and meaning in their parents' life, and that the Lord is not willing to take her away from them. We learn a lot by these!
  • A disciple on Luke 8 - 9 years ago
"And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities . . which ministered unto him of their substance." There are many references to women in the early Church; and what they did, and how important they were. There were no women called to be Apostles; and it was understood as God's commandment, that they not teach, nor dominate over men. But they helped in many ways with honor!
  • A disciple - 9 years ago
(continuing ...) How does someone, or a whole group of people, go from "bowing their heads and worshiping" one day, to saying, "The LORD look upon you!" the next, when they see the proud and wicked react to the Word of God with hostility and persecution? What did the Israelites really expect would be the reaction from such an arrogant and hateful, cruel Pharaoh, when told about God? ( 1 Cor. 14:20)
  • A disciple on Exodus 5 - 9 years ago
"But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that hears the word, and anon with joy receives it; yet hath he not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended." Mt. 13:20-21 Easily scandalized and thin-skinned; a questioning and doubting mind; naivete and stupidity concerning spiritual reality!
  • Deaconess Karen Talbert on Romans 12 - 9 years ago
I think that Paul is explaining to us how we as Christian are suppose to live. Verses 17 and 21 bring back memories to me as a young child, how it was " to get even" with those who mistreated me. I was raised in the church, but also as verse 2 states " and be not confirmed to this world" I was to an extent. But praise the Lord, by His love, Grace and mercy my mind has been transformed.
